The Beginning
In May of 1952, a group of Boston University employees founded the Boston University Employees' Credit Union. It began humbly with 9 dedicated volunteers serving on the Credit Union's first Board of Directors. Early Board meetings covered matters ranging from the Credit Union's finances and operational issues to sending greetings and wishes to a Credit Union member in the hospital. The Credit Union had heart.
As odd as it is to refer to a financial institution in that manner, the truth is that at the core of the Credit Union is its membership. They knew it back then, and we still remember it today.
Today
Since the beginning, Boston University Employees' Credit Union grew from serving the employees of Boston University to serving over 20 educational and healthcare institutions and changing its name to University Credit Union. If you are employed by, retired from, or a student of an educational or health care institution in Norfolk, Middlesex, Suffolk, or Essex counties, or have a family member who is, you are eligible to become a member of University Credit Union. Membership has reached over 9,000 and continues to climb. UCU's dedication to serving our membership remains the same. It is what has sustained us all these years. President William Sinibaldi, who has been with the Credit Union for over 20 years, leads a committed staff.
